India are the World Champions!

:):):)Hugs & High fives…get the champagne….Dhoni, Sachin muah….Yay Woohoo!!”  read my reply to the congratulatory messages started pouring in as India lifted the cricket World Cup, the feeling was of exhilaration. The finals was the big event of the week, it came to an exciting finish with India beating Sri Lanka in a cat & mouse kind of match.
Saturday afternoon came & we were prepared with -chips, popcorn & apple juice(yeah juice, as the suggestion of stocking the fridge with breezers was met with stern looks by my mother;)), glued to the couch bunched with cushions arranged for a comfortable viewing.
First began a drama at the toss which had to be repeated due to some confusion because of which there was a huge hoo-haa. Though at the beginning we looked good, as it progressed our hopes were smashed during the half-way mark when we looked to be struggling at 31-2.But a captains knock later the scene changed.A hit in the stands for a 6 sealed the fate.Hopes were high, people have been talking on & on about it. The news channels covering maximum bytes , with every one becoming an expert ,analyzing every aspect of the big game, almost all predicted an Indian win raising the hopes of billion cricket-crazy fanatics who have been trying to get their hands on the most prized ticket. Everyone had high hopes on Sachin Tendulkar, the local favourite but his innings lasted only some 18 runs, the collective sigh in the stadium & shocked faces told the story. However his contribution during the tournament & over the years, just the persona makes him a legend.
Cricket -a binding force in our country , brings together all people from different strata of the society who choose to ignore these differences while watching a game of this sport. There were big screens projecting the match at every nook & corner of the town.Liquor was flowing, the streets wore a naked look , something a which is a rare sight on a Saturday evening.
After the match was something else- crackers lighting the night sky, people singing & dancing on the roads, people hugging strangers, parties all over the town. It has giver our nation reeling from different issues relating to corruption, water crisis, poverty, inflation etc lots to cheer & smile about.

“Kudos Team India- Love & Luck”
