Albeit not a No. 1 cricket fan, no one could stay away from yesterdays all important knock-out, do-or-die World Cup India vs Australia quarter-final. Team India walked into the field with a air of confidence, almost cocky, after all they were playing in their own backyard. They were put in to filed first after the triple-champions Australians won the toss. They set a modest total of 261-6 for India to chase. At that time all the fans thought, this one was in the kitty…..As usual our all time favourite Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar, fondly referred to as Ramesh by a friend, delivered. It amazes me how he like wine, gets better with age. With his innings of some 50-odd he became the highest run-getter in the tournament….sweet! Everything was going according to plan, when suddenly the usually dependable captain is ‘out’ & the run-rate is plummeting…warning bells start ringing….can we make it? The inconsistent Indians are at it again. Then walks in the hungry but calm Suresh Raina who starts the assault, as if he has a point to prove, he along with the ‘in good nick’ Yuvraj Singh steadily tame the run-rate…sigh of relief…hope returns. After that all goes nice & we comfortably achieve the target 261 with a swash-buckling '4' by now-sporting-a-french-beard Yuvraj Singh, putting an end to the unbeatable Aussies run sending them back to the Land Down Under…yippie!
